So excited to see my name with people from NASA, Kentucky Space, Naval School, and all those Univs.

And my title, “An Artist with Open Source Satellite”, looks different from others yet is similar in many ways i think.

기상이변은 전 지구적인 현상이 되었고 대기권은 더 이상 우주 방사선으로부터 인류를 지켜주지 못하게 되었다. 국가의 존재는 사라진지 오래였고 세계는 하나되어 생존을 위해 싸워갈 뿐이다. 단지 구원을 위한 종교만이 인류를 지탱하는 힘이되고 있다.

서기 2020년, 인류의 예상보다 훨씬 빨리 석유는 고갈되었고 석유를 주원료로 하던 패션산업들은 급속히 쇠퇴하였다. 사람들의 옷은 염색이 안된 흰 삼베 혹은 면옷만이 허용되었고 화장품을 만들던 천연재료들 역시 사용이 금지되어 금욕의 삶을 위한 발판이 마련된다.

House Residency
Idea of sharing artists’ and curators’ houses as an alternative residency space was developed and now we have our first pilot artist. It was informally started Feb 2009 and we already have networks in Seoul, Barcelona, Berilin, and NYC. 
House Residency provides intimate relationships, practical artist communiy help, accomodations, and global networks yet tears down conventional pretentious habits among artits and curators(we hope so).

Yaiza Nicolás is an artist based in Barcelona, Spain. She received her BFA from Alonso Cano University of Granada, Spain and she studied one year as exchange program in Fonty’s Art Academy of Tilburg, The Netherlands. After graduated she completed her studies with a MA of Digital Art from Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona. She received different Young Artist Grants and Art Residencies from Pompeu Fabra University, Phonos Foundation, Metrónom, Hangar, SSamzie Space, Junta de Andalucía, UNESCO and Changdong Studio. 

Yaiza´s work research about the representation of collective desire in growing economies. Yaiza used to combine 2 elements in order to build an idea, and is common to find in her work the animal figure as a metaphor of human being. Yaiza is interesting in the relation ship between beauty and power, especially after her first experience in Korea.

종교를 믿지 않고 신을 믿지 않고 영혼을 믿지 않는 사람으로서..

“내가 어디서 왔고 어디로 가는지”

“내가 왜 삶을 지금처럼 살고 있는지”

에 대답을 구하는 것은 정말로 고통스러운 과정들이다.

“내가 왜 생각을 하는지, 내가 생각하는 ‘나’가 과연 ‘나’인지”

에 대답 역시 답이 내려지기 힘들다.

언어로 표현하기 힘들것들, 내가 생각하기 힘든데 불안한 것들,

이것들을 위해서 난 뭐라도 하지 않으면 안되는데

가장 쉬운게 어찌 보면 술 등 약물에 취하는 것일테고

다른 하나는 위험하지만 예술이라고 말하는 분야에서 애쓰는 것일테다.

난 어렸을적 부터 위의 질문이 내 생각을 잠식하면 숨을 못쉴정도로 괴로워졌다. 소리지르고 울고.

지금도 그렇다. 울진 않지만 제발 일상의 잡념들이 질문들에 대한 고민을 잠식해주길 바라며 한숨쉬고 벽을 친다.

그 순간은 갑자기 다가오는데 이전엔 1년에 몇번이었지만 요즘엔 하루에도 몇번씩 그 순간이 찾아온다.

가위눌린다고 생각했지만 막상 가위눌려보니 이건 가위가 아니었다.

삶의 대한 욕심 + 내 존재에 대한 의문은 나로 하여금 예술과 과학이라 불리는 두 분야 어느 하나 포기할 수 없이 같이 같이 가도록 하고 있다.

As a man not beleiving a religion, a GOD, and a ghost,

Seeking answers for:

“where am i coming from?”

“what do i live for?”

is a real painful process.

“why am i thinking, is i the one thinking?”

is also very hard to be answered.

Things that cannot be expressed in languages, things that are hard to think yet nervouse to be left..

I had to something about them,

probably, the easiest things is to get drunken or doped,

Another, probably dangerous thing to do is do something in so-called art field.

When i was little, when occupied by above questions, i was screaming or cryting not know what to do.

That happens to me now too. i don’t cry but i sigh and hit the wall hoping daily routine can occupy that thought as soon as possible.

That moment came suddenly and that happened couple of times a year but it happened several times a day these days.

First i thought i was having an incubus but it was not after i had an incubus.

Greed on living + doubt on my existence keeps me working on both art and science.. i cannot give up any.

오랜만에 일본 친구와 연락을 하였다. 보드를 왕성히 타던 시절 뉴질랜드 Wanaka에서 만나 연을 맺은 후 겨울이면 이 친구들과 함께 일본 Niseko 에서 보드를 탔다.

다들 일본 프로스노보더들이라 미국, 유럽 프로들과도 어울릴 기회가 생기곤 했는데 서로 좋은  Spot가서 필름 찍어주고 온천가고 맥주마시는 행복한 나날들을 보냈다.

그런데 오늘 우연히 작업실을 치우던 중 ET (Eiichi Takizawa)의 핸드폰 번호를 발견하여 전화를 했는데 받는거 아닌가?

여전히 Niseko에 있지만 이젠 보드는 거의 안타고 DJing 만 한다고 했다. 이 친구들 덕에 나도 Psychedelic Trance로 한국에 와서 이리저리 DJing 한다고 꼽사리끼게 되었고 보드타는 친구들 덕에 Art라는 것을 하게되었다고 해도 과언이 아니다.

공대 + 스노우보드 = 미디어 아트

인 셈이다..

주변에 스켑 / 스놉 타는 친구들이 이제는 아티스트들이 되었고 되어가고 있고 난 나만의 조합으로 이렇게 되어가고 있다.

I could contact one of my friends in japan in long time. I met him in Wanaka, NZ when i snowboard alot and we snowboard together in Niseko, Japan in every winter.

All my japanese friends were pro snowboarders, so i sometimes had chances to meet pros from US and Europe, too. We used to go to onsen, shooting films where only local knew, and drink beer together.

Today, while i was cleaning my studio, i found cell phone number for ET (Eiichi Takizawa) and called, and he answered.

He still lives in Niseko but he told me he barely snowboards but he mainly does DJing . Thanks to them, i could manage to play psychedelic trance  as DJ in korea for couple of years. And it is not too much to say that i do so-called Art because of my snowboard friends.

Sort of like:

Engineering + Snowboard = Media Art

People who used to snowboard and skateboard now become an artist and they are becoming one now. And i’m becoming something with my own combination.

수강생은 이 수업을 통하여,
1. 다양한 센서를 알고 / 대표 센서들을 경험하고 / 센서의 한계를 알고 / 한계를 극복하는 방법을 알아 / ‘느낌’을 최대한 살릴 수 있는 방법을 안다.
2. 대표 센서들을 이용하여 실제로 회로를 구성하여 컴퓨터와 연동하고 나아가 stand alone으로 동작할 수 있는 시스템을 만든다.
3. 매시간마다 30여가지 다양한 센서들이 쓰인 인터렉티브 작업, 실험 퍼포먼스, 전자 악기 등을 예로 하여 분석하고 토의하는 시간을 갖는다.

* 난이도: 모든 회로도와 코드는 미리 제공되어 누구든지 따라할 수 있지만 마이크로프로세서 프로그래밍의 일반적인 이야기는 하지 않는다. 영어 숙어처럼 자주 쓰이는 용례를 익히고 한계를 아는데 초점을 둔다.

강사 소개
송호준 / 미디어 아티스트

송호준은 기술의 틈새를 발견하고 조합하기를 즐겨하는 예술가이다. 그는 그 틈을 발견하여 사회 비평 수단으로 이용하기도 하고 아름다움을 표현하기 위한 물감으로 이용한다. 마이크로프로세서, 센서, PCB디자인, PC,알루미늄 등이 그가 즐겨 쓰는 물감이고 새로운 배합을 위해 그의 스튜디오(Studio hhjjj)에서 지속적인 실험을 하고 있다.
고려대학교 전기 전자 전파공학부를 졸업하고 ICU 공학부 대학원을 수료한 후 인공 위성 회사에서 근무하였고 “현대매체미술라이트 전(성남아트센터), interactive entrance (sonarsound seoul), 인티그레이팅 전(광주아시아문화전당), 디자인쇼쇼쇼 전(예술의 전당), opacity 101전( 트리아드갤러리) 등의 전시회에 참여하였으며 2번의 개인전을 가졌다. 현재 그는 서킷벤딩, 센서 인테페이스를 이용한 실험음악, 인터렉티브 조명, 인공위성 기술에 영감을 받은 “이 세상에서 가장 강력한 무기” 등의 프로젝트를 진행하고 있다.
